Their Eyes Were Watching God

The Street Lamp

The street lamp in a sense represents Joe. It comes in from some far out town and sheds light in the darkness. Joe came in and saved the town and showed people the way essentially, just as the street lamp is going to do. It represents Joe’s pride in what he has done in the town and since it is taller then the people, the people are going to look up to it.

  1. Joe's light that shines over the town and brings it out of darkness. Again - artificial light compared to the sun!
